Located in the north part of elegant Koukaki just by of the Acropolis of Athens, the apartment is part of a modernist building by famed Greek architect Nikos Desyllas. Using their own collection of art, their families’ artifacts and furniture along with the beautiful elements of the apartment itself they refurbished their home true to it’s original style.
Enjoy every moment in the apartment, go through the books, be it cooking or poetry and help us maintain it in its pristine condition.
Elegant, spacious apartment, by the Acropolis
Our personally decorated, relaxed and stylish 2 bedroom 98 sqm apartment, lies just below the southern wall of the Acropolis, a couple of minutes walk to the Museum, the Metro station, the quiet and leafy Filopappou Hill and the buzz of Koukaki, Plaka and Monastiraki. It’s a real home, not a purpose made rental flat, so you can feel like Athenians while visiting. The area is great, safe and convenient and it feels a bit off-centre at the same time so no massive crowds.
-We don’t offer breakfast per se, but you’ll find in the kitchen coffee, tea, juice, local products and cool water for your first day.
After that feel free to use our well equipped kitchen for your breakfast or light meal. Please leave the kitchen as you’ve found it and make sure you don’t leave any food or dirty plates in the sink
-There’s a 8:00-23:00 store around the corner, kind of a “mini” super-market, which is quite well stocked. And a couple of convenience stores too, that stay open even longer. Water in Athens is 100% safe, we drink it all the time, but nevertheless you’ll find bottled water in the fridge at your arrival.
-Our apartment is quite a unique place. The building itself, is a meta-modernist late 60’s construction, designed by Nikos Desyllas, one of the fathers of Greek modern architecture.
We actually bought the place because of that and its amazing and rare green marble floor. (that came from the island of Tinos back in the day, and it’s not available anymore).
-We renovated it to high standards a few years ago, keeping most of initial features, like said green floor, the marble bathroom, ceiling decoration, lovely bedroom cupboards and wooden floors. We installed cool/heat air-conditioning in all areas, replaced all electrics and plumbing, installed a beautiful minimal kitchen with all mod-cons, new sound- and heat-proof windows, extra foldable mosquito screens (after all, this is the South!) and planted some beauties on our two balconies. In fact we got some (small) citrus trees, an almond tree, an olive tree, a beautiful bougainvillaea and some cactuses. Oh and a very pleasant retractable canopy in case you’d want to enjoy the balcony protected from the sun.
-We’re on the first floor, but if you fancy, feel free to use the elevator.
From our balcony you can see the south Acropolis wall and you can get there within a couple of minutes. ( or faster if you’re in really good shape)
-We decorated the place at a slow pace, with things we love, art from our friends, and objects that have accumulated over the years or bought on purpose for the flat. We got lots of great books and mags if you feel like reading (treat them gently and put them back please), a smart TV in case you feel like watching a movie or the news, wi-fi (about 10Mbps download, 1Mbps Upload), a smoke and monoxide detector (by Nest, so online with us) and a lovely kitchen with a huge fridge if you want to store your veg from the lovely farmer’s market around the corner (every Friday, mind you) .
